Goofs: Factual errors: The USCGC Itasca is called the USS Itasca by its crew. Vessels commissioned in the U.S. Coast Guard are refer to as USCGC or CGC (Coast Guard Cutter) and not USS, as in a U.S. Navy vessel.

Trivia: Director Martin Scorsese originally wanted to shoot the film in Academy ratio, 1.33:1, the same ratio as films of the period and indeed all films up until about 1954. Unfortunately, he found that modern theaters are generally not properly equipped to show anything but Flat 1.85:1 or Scope 2.35:1 films. He therefore focused instead on making each portion of the film look like it was made using the color film stock available at the time.

Goofs: Continuity: As Hughes orders Frye to dig up dirt on Brewster, a man in a full brown coverall suit appears behind Fyre that wasn’t among the workers until then.

Goofs: Anachronisms: Throughout the film, Jane wears costumes almost 20 years ahead of the other characters. At the ball scene, she is the only one in short sleeves and an empire waist- all the others are dressed as fits the period, which is 1795. Presumably, this was to make Jane recognizable to popular audiences familiar with the empire style dresses her later characters wore.

Goofs: Continuity: When Ferrall is performing the lobotomy on Anne, on the last tap we cut to Gull talking. In the glass we see the reflection of Ferall performing the tap, but there’s no sound. In the following shot of Ferrall he repeats the tap this time with sound.
